What is ATLAS?

Arkansas Teaching, and Learning Assessment System, or ATLAS, replaces the previous state test, ACT Aspire. It is aligned to Arkansas grade level standards and was created with the input of Arkansas educators. ATLAS includes traditional end-of-year tests, as well as shorter, optional tests teachers can give at key points throughout the year to monitor progress.

Background

Each spring, students in grades 3-8 take ATLAS tests in English Language Arts (ELA), math, and science.

Students in High School courses take an ELA test as well as End-of-Course tests in Algebra 1, Geometry, and Biology after completing each course. Additionally, shorter optional tests may be taken throughout the year to monitor progress and help inform teacher instruction.

Students in grades K-2 take a Reading and Math Screener at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Students in Grade 3 take a Reading Screening at the beginning of the year.

The spring of 2024 was the first time students took the ATLAS tests.
