At Sequoyah Elementary, leadership doesn't always come with a loud voice. Sometimes it comes with a warm smile, a kind heart, and quiet confidence. Joy Rosales is a fifth-grade student who leads with compassion and integrity.
Joy’s teachers and peers agree that she exemplifies what it means to be a compassionate leader. Though this is her first year at Sequoyah, she has already become a beloved and respected member of the school community, from her friendly smile to her kind heart, Joy brings warmth and positivity wherever she goes.
When asked what she enjoys most about Sequoyah, she shared, “There are a lot of kind people here. It feels like everyone looks out for each other. Her favorite subject is math, especially solving equations and she lights up when it's time to tackle a new problem. "Math challenges me in a fun way. I like figuring things out and helping my friends if they get stuck," she explained.
Joy’s teacher, Ms. Emily Bown, had glowing words to share: “Joy leads not with volume, but with presence. Her quiet confidence, empathy, and kindness create a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Whether in the classroom or beyond, she brings people together with grace, showing that true leadership often speaks in the softest voice.”
Joy earned the Inclusive Collaborator Award through the Profile of the RSD Graduate Recognition Program, which celebrates the attributes in the promise of the RSD graduate.
Great job, Joy! Thank you for being an excellent example for your fellow students!
