Russellville School District is proud to announce that Matt Kordsmeier has been hired as the new Principal of Sequoyah Elementary School.
Mr. Kordsmeier brings nearly three decades of experience within the district, beginning his career in 1997. His journey started at Russellville High School as the Girls Basketball Coach, where he served for 12 years. During that time, he not only built a strong athletic program but also developed lasting relationships with students, families, and the community.
Following his time in athletics, he transitioned to the transportation department, gaining a deeper understanding of district operations and student services. His path then led him back into school leadership as an assistant principal at Russellville Junior High School, where he later became head principal. In that role, he worked closely with staff and students to keep a positive school culture and support academic success.
Most recently, Mr. Kordsmeier served as assistant principal at Oakland Heights Elementary alongside Principal Lynnette Ditto. His time there allowed him to reconnect with elementary education and further develop his passion for working with younger students, supporting both their academic and social growth.
Matt Kordsmeier shared, “ I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Sequoyah Elementary Family as their new principal. After an amazing year serving at Oakland Heights as Assistant Principal, I've realized just how much I love working with this age group and can't wait to bring that energy to Sequoyah.”
As he steps into this new role, Mr. Kordsmeier brings a well-rounded perspective shaped by years of experience across multiple areas of the district. His leadership, dedication, and commitment to students will continue to make a meaningful impact at Sequoyah Elementary.
The district looks forward to the continued success and growth of Sequoyah Elementary under his leadership and is excited for what lies ahead.
Congratulations, Mr. Kordsmeier!
